Mountain municipalities: Sicily publishes the 2026 grant rules; allocation and timing come next
Circular 13 makes the regional law’s procedure operational. The notice confirms the process, but not yet the amount for each municipality.
Sicily’s Department of Local Authorities published Circular 13, protocol 19135, on 3 November, setting out operational procedures for the 2026 contribution to mountain municipalities under Article 11 of regional law 1/2026.
Publication is a necessary administrative step, but should be read for what it proves. It confirms the start of the allocation procedure; the notice page alone does not allow a sum to be assigned to any municipality or a project to be described as already funded.
For mountain towns, the fund’s quality will depend on allocation criteria, payment times and permitted uses. A measure can be formally approved yet arrive late for budget needs. It may also distribute sums too small to affect services. Those questions require the circular itself, later decrees and municipal budgets.
U Chianu will follow three indicators: the beneficiary list, the amount actually paid and the use approved by each authority. Only then can an accounting transfer be distinguished from a resource capable of supporting transport, maintenance or services in harder-to-reach areas.
